You don't need a Steam Machine to play Steam games. These systems all run SteamOS, a Debian 7-based Linux. With more than a 1,000 Steam games available for Linux, let's hear no more about Linux not having games! The Syber Steam Machine line, starting with the Steam Machine I, for $499, is expected to be available by the end of the month. The first two Linux-powered Steam Machines, the Alienware Steam Machine, starting at $449, and ZOTAC NEN Steam Machine, list price, $999, are available today. It took a lot longer than Newell expected, but the future is here. The Steam Machines, such as the ZOTAC NEN Steam Machine, are Linux-powered gaming consoles and they're shipping just in time for the 2015 holiday season. But, in September 2013, Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve with its Steam game platform, announced that proprietary software and closed platforms were gaming's past, and gaming's future belonged to Linux and open platforms. One constant complaint about Linux has been "There aren't any games!" That was never true.
